Amid Amidi.
Author. Publisher. Historian.
I co-founded Cartoon Brew in 2004 and was its publisher until selling the company in June 2025. For many of those years, I also served as editor-in-chief. During that time, the site became a leading voice in animation journalism, recognized for its independent reporting and distinctive editorial voice.
I’m the author of six books, including Cartoon Modern: Style and Design in 1950s Animation (recipient of the Theatre Library Association Award) and The Art of Pixar Short Films, among other titles.
In 2026, Animafest Zagreb honored me with its Award for Outstanding Contribution to Animation Studies. I presented the keynote talk, “Whose History Is It?: Telling the Story of American Animation,” at their 13th annual Animafest Scanner Symposium for Contemporary Animation Studies.

Current projects: A biography of Ward Kimball (slated for 2027) and a traveling art exhibition.
I’m available for selective advisory work. After more than two decades leading Cartoon Brew, I’m now taking on a limited number of advisory projects. I enjoy collaborating with publishers, studios, filmmakers, museums, and creative organizations on books, documentaries, exhibitions, and other creative projects where experience and historical perspective can make a meaningful difference. My newsletter: I rarely use social media nowadays. Instead, I write an occasional newsletter about animation, culture, the creative process, and whatever else happens to catch my attention.
